] regarding our previously published article in the EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF INTERNAL MEDICINE. In our study, the LORHCA study, we tested the relationship between the length of hospitalization (LOH) and post-discharge outcomes in patients who had been hospitalized because of acute heart failure (AHF). Additionally, we also ascertained whether there were different outcome patterns according to hospital department in charge of the initial hospitalization [

]. Our main findings can be summarized as follows: 1) short hospitalizations are not associated with worse outcomes; 2) post-discharge readmissions are not affected by LOH, but mortality risk increases as the LOH lengthens; and 3) these findings were similar across the main departments hospitalizing AHF patients. All in all, we believe that our study raises the importance of the assessment of patient pathways during decompensations, not only in terms of time and duration of admission but also in terms of place where they are admitted.
