The European Journal of Internal Medicine is the official journal of The European Federation of Internal Medicine (EFIM), a scientific organization founded in 1996 through a merger of its predecessor AEMI and the Forum of Presidents of National Internal Medicine Societies in Europe. EFIM brings together the national societies of internal medicine in each of the European countries, both inside and outside the European Union. EFIM currently comprises 36 member Societies representing over 40,000 internists.

The European Journal of Internal Medicine is the leading journal for the European internist, covering all aspects of internal medicine, the journal is devoted to promoting the science and practice of internal medicine in Europe. It publishes original scientific articles, editorials, review articles and other information relevant to internal medicine and related fields. The European Journal of Internal Medicine is a home to articles for several subspecialty topics covering the clinical practice of the internist.
